People often ask about the name. My dad was born in East London and enjoyed using Cockney rhyming slang. We were very close, and I wanted my new art practice to be a nod him as he always supported my creativity. “Trouble and strife” is slang for “wife,” and as he passed away not long after my wedding, the phrase felt like a perfect fit.
Commissions
-
Yes. I accept a limited number of custom pieces at a time. Get in touch and I can let you know current availability.
I do generally get busier around Christmas time, so if you are thinking of a commission as a Christmas gift, reach out early.
-
Illustrations or one-of-a-kind hand-painted ceramics in my own distinctive style. Popular requests include pet portraits (including memorial pieces) and pop-culture characters. Additionally I do portraits of people, however these usually take a little longer due to capturing someone’s likeness.
-
Most projects take 2–6 weeks depending on complexity, medium and my current waitlist. If you have date in mind, mention it in your enquiry and I will do my best to make it work.
-
Commissions start from $249 inc GST for a small illustration or ceramic work.
Final pricing depends on size, complexity, and medium; I’ll confirm a clear quote before we begin.
Unless other arrangements are made, the quoted price includes all of the media and a materials required for me to complete the commission.
To secure your booking, a 50% deposit is payable on acceptance of the quote. This deposit is applied to the final price and is generally non-refundable once work has begun, as it covers my time and materials already committed. The remaining balance is due on completion before delivery or pickup. If I’m unable to complete the commission, you’ll receive a full refund of amounts paid.
-
Send an enquiry with what you’d like to commission, subject, illustration or ceramic and any reference photos. We discuss and agree on the final specifics of the piece (size, complexity, colours Etc).
I’ll confirm price and timeline for the commission.
If you wish to proceed a 50% deposit secures your commission.
I start work on your commission and will generally share some work-in-progress shots with you as it progresses.
Once the final piece is complete and send photos before shipping/pick-up. The remaining balance is due on completion before delivery or pickup.
-
Because we confirm the final brief at the start, changes after I’ve begun the finished piece can be hard to accommodate. Minor tweaks may be possible; major revisions will likely incur an additional fee (always quoted before proceeding).
-
Yes, absolutely. If you’d like additional prints, please tell me before I deliver the original so I can capture a high-resolution scan/photograph for accurate reproduction.
Additional prints are priced at my standard print rates for the chosen size.
-
It depends on the brief. If you already know exactly what you want commissioned, one clear, high-resolution image is enough (the higher the resolution, the better I can capture fine detail). Additional photos are welcome for colour and composition reference.
Alternatively, share a small selection and I’ll recommend which image will translate best into my style.
-
source pre-loved ceramics from local charity/op shops and keep a varied selection on hand. Once we confirm your commission, I’ll suggest suitable pieces and share photos so you can choose your favourite.
-
Yes potentially, I will just need to physically see it before confirming, just to ensure my ceramic paints will take to the finish of the plate.
-
Absolutely. I can create a custom piece or provide a gift card so the recipient can collaborate on the design.
-
You own the original, physical artwork. I retain the copyright and may share images in my portfolio and on social media. Because it’s a bespoke commission, I won’t reproduce or sell it as a general print—but I can create prints for you on request.
If you need exclusive or commercial usage (e.g., logos, products, advertising), let me know and I’ll provide a licensing quote.
Artwork & materials
-
All my reproduction prints are giclée prints, printed using archival quality inks on matte photo paper.
-
I calibrate for accuracy, but as screens vary there will be a small difference.
-
With proper care, a very long time. All prints naturally fade over the years, but good framing and room placement make a big difference.
-
Frame behind UV-protective glass.
Use acid-free matting and backing.
Hang away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity (avoid kitchens/bathrooms).
Dust frames gently; avoid spray cleaners near the edges.
If storing, keep flat in its sleeve in a cool, dry place and handle by the edges.
Until you decide to frame your print or original, keep the piece in its protective sleeve and handle with clean, dry hands.
-
No i’m afraid I don’t, but my prints are sized to suit off the shelf frames. I am happy to help make frame style recommendation that suit the specific work.
-
Technically both, but they are best suited to being decorative.
Upon completion, each one is kiln-set in a conventional oven for durability.
-
Keep ceramics dry and dust with a soft cloth.
